Why Etsy sellers need their own policy even though Etsy has one
Etsy's own privacy policy covers Etsy as a platform. As a seller you are a separate controller of the buyer data you receive — names, shipping addresses, message threads and any customisation details buyers send you. If you export that data into a spreadsheet, a shipping tool or an email list, that processing is yours to explain.
This matters most for sellers who market outside Etsy: a newsletter, an Instagram remarketing audience, or a personal storefront all involve data uses Etsy never covers.
- Buyer name, address and order details you receive from Etsy
- Personalisation notes and message-thread content
- Any mailing list you build from buyers, and the consent basis for it
- Shipping and label providers who receive addresses
