Etsy makes its sellers responsible for buyer data they collect outside the platform (mailing list signups, order notes, shipping). Our generator produces an Etsy-ready policy that satisfies GDPR for EU buyers and CCPA for US buyers.

What's included

  • Buyer name, address, and order details
  • Etsy Payments and tax information
  • Mailing list / Mailchimp signups
  • Shipping carrier disclosures
  • GDPR for EU customers

  • Avoid Etsy shop suspensions

Why Etsy sellers need their own policy even though Etsy has one

Etsy's own privacy policy covers Etsy as a platform. As a seller you are a separate controller of the buyer data you receive — names, shipping addresses, message threads and any customisation details buyers send you. If you export that data into a spreadsheet, a shipping tool or an email list, that processing is yours to explain.

This matters most for sellers who market outside Etsy: a newsletter, an Instagram remarketing audience, or a personal storefront all involve data uses Etsy never covers.

  • Buyer name, address and order details you receive from Etsy
  • Personalisation notes and message-thread content
  • Any mailing list you build from buyers, and the consent basis for it
  • Shipping and label providers who receive addresses

Where sellers publish it on Etsy

Etsy does not offer a dedicated privacy policy field for most shops, so sellers usually place the text in the shop's About section or the FAQ area, and link to a hosted copy if they also run their own site. Keep the two copies identical — inconsistent versions are worse than one clear document.
